About Cycling Without Age

Cycling Without Age (CWA) was initiated in Copenhagen by Ole Kassow in 2012. The initiative was driven by his desire to assist elders in cycling despite their limited mobility. To address this, he introduced specialized trishaw bikes and began providing complimentary bike rides to elderly residents of local nursing homes as well as less-abled citizens. This initiative has experienced substantial growth worldwide despite being a completely volunteer-based organization, spanning 50 countries and boasting over 3,050 chapter locations worldwide.

Sault Ste. Marie Chapter

Among the 3,050 global CWA chapters, Sault Ste. Marie stands as one of the newest additions. With a single trishaw bike, CWA Sault Ste. Marie aims to grow its fleet, extending services to meet the needs of our entire community.

A trishaw is a three-wheeled, highly specialized bicycle with room for two passengers in front and a driver (Pilot) behind the passengers. The design of the trishaw, and the electrical assist power motor, make it very comfortable for the passengers and easy to pedal for the pilot.

How it Works

Currently, over 3,050 chapters worldwide provide Cycling Without Age using 4,900+ trishaws, and these numbers continue to rise. With 39,000+ trained pilots, seniors leave their nursing homes to relish fresh air and community, embracing the freedom of wind in their hair.

Volunteer (Pilots) join Passengers for bike rides at their convenience, driven purely by their own motivation. Contact us to learn more about becoming a Passenger or a Pilot!
